Problem with 16+ oyster renewal

I have 2 teens entitled to free travel as we live in London. The trouble is, neither of them have recieved their new oystercards yet despite them being renewed and now we're going to have to pay out £32 for 2 weekly bus passes so they can get to school and college (neither even remotely within walking distance).

This happened last year and they were allowed to use them for an extra week until the passes came through, but I can't get through to tfl to ask if that's okay this year. Every time I call, I just get put through to an engaged tone.

So has anyone else had this problem and is able to confirm whether the passes can be used or an extra week again?

Okay, apparently they can't and Oyster will not be refunding any money paid for travel in the meantime, even though it's their fault the cards haven't arrived yet. Wonderful.

It is not clear whether you renewed them in time. Did you?

Yes. Quite a few of their friends seem to have had the same issue. Oh well, have made a complaint for all the good that is likely to do.
