  • So am I ok to give him the powder in some kitten milk? I think that might be the best bet for the powder meds.

When my Tinker was alive I had to give her two tablets a day. I bought some cat sticks. Then I broke off a small piece of the end. I used a fork to make a hole in the end and pushed the pill inside. Then I molded the piece of cat stick around it. Tinker loved the cat sticks and ate it without any trouble. That worked right up until she died.

not read all the replies but try putting the tablet in some cheese, and squish the cheese around it. For the powder, mix in a bit of cheese spread.

Aahh, an age old problem for cat slaves ;)

For a tablet med, I wrap the cat in a towel, put the tablet as far down the back of the throat as I can and massage the throat, this is the best way to ensure the cat gets all his meds. My vet gave me a good tip, too: when the mouth closes, briefly put your finger over his nostrils and this forces them to swallow (and not spit the tablet out a few moments later when you have turned your back and are congratulating yourself on a job well done :rotfl:).

Be positive (with the pills) left hand over her head, thumb and middle finger at each side of her mouth, pull her head back whilst opening her mouth, drop the pill in and then massage her throat. Give her a biscuit before hand and one as a reward afterwards. Talk to her all the way through.

I use this method with no biscuit after or before just a cuddle. I have to give Delilah a steriod tablet every morning. Just don't grab the cat make it seem like a cuddle.

For anyone 'dry pilling' a cat....please ALWAYS give a couple of treats or syringe fluid into throat straight afterwards. This will ensure the pill passes directly into the stomach and avoid painful, even dangerous, inflammation of the throat.

my nicki had FIV and for the three years I had him he had to have a pill every day - sometimes more if he was ill.
he too quickly sussed out if a pill was in his food!
he adored prawns so I would buy those huge prawns and hide a tab in them - only worked a couple of times.
so we got a pill popper from the vets - it looks like a syringe but it has a grabber at one end and a plunger at the other. get the vet to show you how its done. and ALWAYS follow giving a pill with a treat (those tiger prawns came in handy!).
once you have the hang of those pill poppers you can give the medication in seconds - the cat gets used to it and its less stressful on you!
