What counts as a second home?

I need buidlings and contents for what I think of as my main residence. Most of the family belongs are here. It is our home. I used to work from home a couple of days a week and we are always here on weekends ( fri night to mon morning ) and every holiday and weekend. I therefore could insure this house as my main residence.
We also have crash pad in the city. This year DS started school and he is going to school in the city. I therefore now only work from home during school holidays. My partner sometimes remains at the house for a few days during the week.
Does my house now have to be classified as a second home for insurance purposes? Any suggestions please on how to get it insured without it costing a fortune. The flat has buildings insurance included in the factors fees and we don't have any contents there to worry about so haven't had to insure that.

Main residence is where you spend most of the time each week. Other property would be considered secondary.
If in doubt speak to Insurers or your broker. Make sure that they are totally aware of the circumstances. You would not want any nasty surprises if you needed to claim. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
