Cheque books for bad credit?

in Credit cards
Hi all,
I finished my DOR term back in May, I have a bank account which is fine. I have regular money going into my account each month. I have never been in arrears since sorting my financial situation out.
The bank will still not upgrade my account from the step account due to the DOR being flagged on my credi file (computer says no). I have a normal debit card which is fine.
My new landlady like to be paid by cheque, I have no cheque book so this is frustrating.
Does anyone know a way around this or am I like this for a further four years? To add insult to injury Natwest are to make it harder for step accounts to access their money from cash machines which are not Natwest/RBS!!

Easiest thing to do would be change banks, the likes of hsbc coop and barclays should provide you with a basic account that has a cheque book.0

I doubt that would work as for a current account as a credit check is performed. I have just been speaking to someone and apparently I am able to go to the bank and ask them to issue a cheque from my account.
There may be a small fee though.0 -
Sorry, MAJOR typo up there, 'DRO' Debt Relief Order0

Would she accept payment straight in to her bank account by electronic transfer? You could set up a standing order from your account to hers.0 -
Could you get a bankers draft each month for the amount of the rent/ Would that not work the same way as a cheque?0

You could get a bankers draft drawn up but that would come at a fee each time you issued one0
-
Would she take a Postal Order? (Draw cash and buy from a post office.)
Still a fee, but perhaps cheaper than a bankers draft..0 -
I too have had major problems with bank accounts due to past debts...i have just managed to open a nationwide account that comes with a cheque book...i applied online so didnt need to visit a branch0

You could just tell her you don't have one. These days quite a few accounts don't come automatically with a chequebook, so there is no embarrasment in saying you don't use chequebooks. I wonder if she's being so fussy because she's on the fiddle....BCSC Member 70:j

I have bad credit and Santander took me on no probs. This was nearly two years ago mind, when they were apparently less "picky". However, worth a try if you want a basic current account with a cheque book.£170/£12,000
A long way to go but enjoying the challenge!0
