Adding another Driver

Hi,
Norwich Union say they can lower my premium if I add another driver to my policy.
Is this true?
I gave them my dad's details, and they say this would save me £30.00 per month! They say nothing would change, only that my dad would be covered to drive my car.
Whats the pros and cons of this? Surley, its not as simple as they say?

Yes it is as simple as that, add mum as well if she drives and has a clean license but..... beware of lying to get cheaper insurance, it could invalidate your insurance.
How it works is that the insurance look at it as if you will not be driving the car 100% or the time Mum or Dad might be, so that lowers the risk of a claim hence the lower premium.
My wife and I are added to my kids insurance, but legitimately because my wife drives both cars occasionally and I always drive the cars to the garage when it is service time as they hate dealing with garages.

sorry to hi jack the thread with my question but i was under the impression that if you have fully comp car insurance you can drive someone else`s car with their permission but you are only covered 3rd party someone please correct me if im wrong:o my mum n dad for years have both been fully comp on their individual cars and have also had the other one as a named second driver. do they really need to have each other as second driver as surely they are covered by their own insurance on the others car 3rd party iyswim
can they just cancel the 2nd driver bit saving a few pennies? proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!

Depends on the risk you are willing to take if you have a accident. Sure you can drive another car on fully comp insurance (although some companies I believe have withdrawan this on new policies you would have to check each policy), but should you have an accident and is our fault and the car is unrepairable, it aint covered on 3rd party. The only time this would be any good was if your car was not worth very much.
