New washing machine - options please

Hi all - hopefully the right section.

Our 13 year old washing machine has just given up the ghost - a broken belt caused by a collapsed drum caused by a collapsed bearing.

We're on a tight budget but looking for a decent washer at a decent price. The previous one was a Hotpoint First Edition WM52. There is only two of us so we dont have it on much.

Any tips of a place to get a decent but cheap reliable washer and a make thats decent too please.

Thanks as always for your assistance.

Do you have a budget in mind - I've seen washers in Asda/Comet/Currys etc for around £190. I've just replaced my dead Hotpoint with an Indesit from https://www.appliancesonline.co.uk

From a service point of view, I can recommend them - ordered last Friday night, delivered (free) on Sunday! £10 to take the old one away and a small amount of cashback too, via Top Cashback.

There are user reviews on there too. With a family of 5 and a water meter, I looked for one with A ratings & a decent spin speed, as the savings should add up over the life of the machine.

The one I chose was this one - http://www.appliancesonline.co.uk/product/IWC6145-Indesit-Start-Washing-Machine-White-15780.aspx

I checked around and couldn't find it cheaper. Only had it a week, but it washes well and is quieter than the old Hotpoint!

Many thanks for the replies so far.

Affordable would be £300 at the very maximum but if it could come in a lot less than that it would be very welcome.

We're on a water meter too -so efficiency should be on the ticklist too.
  • You could also try comet auctions we bought a new Siemens machine and it had a scratch on the side and was £200 cheaper than the shop price. Ok if you can hang on a bit but not if you need to do something straight away

My latest is an AEG washer/dryer and its been wonderful.

Have a google, find a washer you like and then google again for the best price. Then use a cash back site to see if the merchant is on there offering some cash back.

For information, Which give Miele as the best followed by AEG.

A washing machine service man told me that he would recommend a Bosch washing machine over any these days.

He also said to avoid Hotpoint (and therefore Indesit as they now own Hotpoint) at all costs. I would agree with him on that having had 2 Hotpoint machines give up on me after 3yrs and 2yrs. My previous Hotpoint had lasted 14 years.

In this day and age?
We just leave them out the front and the appliance fairies have them away in no time.

as the OP has a had a hotpoint machine for 13 yrs, its a bit silly to tell em they are no good.

as for indesits, ive had 3 of em. they have lasted an average of 7 yrs each.
for 200 quid, thatll do for me, tommy.
