Hello all,
Im going to be getting carpets fitted around the whole house but as yet,i havent decided due to the huge range available..im finidng it very confusing and everyone is tellin me different things...i currently have a wilton which lasted me years but now want to go for a plain one. I have liked the primo ultra range the best so far which is 100% polypropylene, extra heavy domestic..is this good?i don't want a
Year to go and then my carpet to flatten like i have seen in other peoples houses.i have seen a few abingdon luxor carpets but these look like they will flatten very easily.
Also i know wool would be best but i think it is beyond my budget.
Your help and knowledge would be much appreciated.

You say that everyone is telling you different things. What makes you think that it will be any different on a public forum. Everyone comes from a different viewpoint and what is the right thing for one person is not necessarily the right thing for another.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Like most household fittings buy cheap, buy twice. For a carpet which will look good in years to come you need to spend money on an 80:20 wool carpet. This wont be cheap, budget on £20+ per sq m, colours may be limited due to the dying process used for wool, but it will last years, won't flatten and can be cleaned time and time again.0

It was cheaper if 5 metre wide rolls were used instead of 4 metre wide rolls, so maybe be worth looking in to that0

It is personal preference, but my humble tuppence worth is - the last 5 houses I've lived in I've bought exactly the same carpet in exactly the same colour. Its already a flat pile, so dosent go flat. And I originally bought it because its stainproof and was very practial with a young family. I've literally poured bleach on this carpet (as a ploy when I've put a house up for sale). It also hoovers up really well.

Top tip though - buy your own underlay - on this site people recommend cloud 9 direct from internet & have the stores carpetfitter fit it along with your carpet. I've used Cloud 9 for the first time in my current home & am pleased with it. I also negotiated the price down with the store (though the store does know me cos I keep going back when I move & buying the same carpet).
Ibought I think it was 100 linear metres??? (to do whole house)
and the actual carpet cost me £1300 + underlay + fitting was £270. Maybe you can do better - I dont know, but I was happy witht the price I paid0 -
Thanks very much to you all for your help.
I was asking because maybe someone out there has used corma carpets ultra primo caret and knows how good/or bad it is....!
Muskoka...the carpet you have seems similar to the carpet that I would like to get. I have also heard of cloud9, anyone know the cheapest place to ordeer this from?
My budget is £2500 so hopefully that amount should give me a pretty decent carpet to last a few years...!!0 -
it may be it is ok these days but in the past I have found that 100% artificial fibre carpets gave off a lot of static charge.0

buy cheap buy twice
fair enough but perhaps i would prefer to buy twice and have that lovely brand new feeling more frequently
iif it were buy cheap buy thrice or 4x i would reconsider0 -

Excellent advice - I was going to say the same, i.e. consider the "cleanability" of the carpet. We have kids + pets, so something that can withstand repeated wetting, bleaching, cleaning is important to us. I don't know your situation, but this may not be as important to you, so that would affect the range you can choose from. And don't scrimp on the underlay - a good underlay will protect the carpet as well as making it feel softer.
Top Tip - when the old carpets have been removed, go round and fix any squeaky floorboards BEFORE the new carpet is laid :-)0 -
To the OP, maybe consider dealing with a shop that has a good trade in off cuts / end of roll ?
When we first moved in, we carpeted the whole house in a decent Westex 80:20 of good weight, but all rooms bar the hall were effectively end of rolls.
It helps keep costs manageable.0 -

We've just replaced the carpets for the entire house - like for like on the carpets, approx 125m2 of Cormar 40oz Berwick Twist fitted for around your budget but didn't need gripper or underlay. We found someone (listing on ebay) but ended up coming to our own agreement with them.
We couldn't find something we liked locally at a good price (I hate carpet shopping) so eventually went for the deal online. If you are interested in finding out more send me a PM and I'll let you know their details.
Only downside with this is you need to know what carpet you want but they can provide samples etc.0
