My neighbour has an Acer laptop running Windows Vista (Groan!)
She complained about it running very slowly, and having looked at it this afternoon I can see why. Whoever set it up initially has partioned the 80Gb hard drive into two equal partions, C: & D; . Heavens knows why!
All the acticity is taking place on the C: partition which is practically full up.
Is there any way I can get rid of the
partition and add the space to the C: partition without losing all the data and operating system already on C: ?

One option

New! Safely free merge adjacent partitions into one without data loss.0 -
unless it's completely full, that's unlikely to be the reason for slowness - see speedup sticky thread.
repartitioning could mess up the erecovery partition.
moving some data to d is the easiest and safest solution to a full c drive.
many machines come delivered like that, as it is sensible to keep the OS and data on separate partitions in case a reinstall is required.!!

....remember to backup what you can before using any partition tools!!Neil0

first make sure the partition has nothing on it, as you will loose anything that is on it.
click start then type 'disk management' then select 'create and format disk partitions' from the list.
right click on the partition and select 'delete volume'
go through any steps
then right click on the 'C:' volume and select 'extend volume' and extend it into the blank space (the amount should already be selected)
that should be it.0 -

Thanks all for replying. This option sounds promising. There is absolutely no data on partitionso as long as this method leaves data on partition C: intact ......
