Both are good mid-market brands. Up to you to specify or go with the boiler offered by the plumber you select.

On a technicality, the question cannot be answered because you mention the brand but not the specific model. Each range increases in features (and cost) from entry-level to range topping models. So you need to closely scrutinise the quotations for the specific model.

    Hey Jai,

Personally I'd recommend Vaillant as I've had one installed in my home and it's been great, but both are good market brands. If i were you i'd get a few quotes before you make your decision, remeber the cheapest isnt always the best choice!

I have a Worcester 24cdi, getting on for 12 years now, and it has performed really well. Only ever had one major problem when the main circuit board packed in a couple of years ago. Worcester replaced the part it at a cost of about £160 (other plumbers where quoting over £250 for the part alone) and it's been fine ever since. When I come to replace it I will stick with a Worcester.

Aren't Vaillant Worcester and Glow-worm all part of the same group? I'm sure this is what I was told by the heating engineer when he last serviced my boiler, unless of course I was misinformed. He told me they all use the same parts.

Worcester Bosch and Vaillant are seperate companies, Glow-worm and Saunier Duval are part of the Vaillant Group though.

Veissman are one of the industry leaders, followed closely by the likes of Vaillant, WorcesterBosch, Baxi/Potterton etc.

It all depends on your needs, your wants and your budget.

Try to go for one above Entry Level on whichever you get. Entry level are usually the least reliable, the Vaillant ecoTEC Pro range has some plastic parts, the ecoTEC Plus (mid-range) has brass parts, as does the ecoTEC Exclusive (top-range).

All will also depend greatly on where you are putting it and how much hot water you are capable of recieving and wish to have on demand.

  • I had to choose a new boiler about 3 years ago and I asked lots and lots of different plumbers which make is most reliable. These were the most popular makes - Vaillant and Worcester...I went with Worcester in the end, I think it had the edge.

Just had a new Worcester Greenstar FS30 CDI boiler fitted. Plumber recommended it as being an excellent make and it came with an extra year's warranty.
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

Both brands have good quality boilers at the high end of their range. The quality of the cheaper versions for both companies is decidedly less than that of the more expensive models; no surprise there.
WB are generally considered in the trade to have the best after sales support, and Vaillant are amongst the very worst in that respect.
The Viessmann 100W is technically better than the flagships of Viessmann and WB ( although not by a whole lot ), comes with a 5 year parts and labour warranty on the whole boiler, and 10 years on the heat engine. Coupled with a lower price than Vaillant or WB, they are easily the best value for money.
Downsides, Viessmann are very well known on the continent, but less here. The boiler doesn't have much money wasted on pretty looks either. The company is very proud of their top quality image, and work very hard to keep people happy.

Had a WB 30cdi iirc installed just over a year ago, very pleased with it. We did have a problem early on but this was due to the remote thermostat being too far away, the engineer replaced the main board on the boiler, installed a remote sender unit below the boiler and brought the thermostat nearer to the sender unit which, co-incidentally neans it's in a much handier place, and all has been good ever since.

Bills are significantly lower than our previous boiler which is very impressive considering the rise in utility prices and the fact that we had it on 3 times as much last winter as we had the old one on in previous years.

One thing the engineer did say to me was that shortly before our 2 year warranty expires WB would write to me asking me if I wanted to take out an extended warranty and that I most definitely should as the work that he had done would have cost well in excess of an extended warranty.

My WB 30CDi was installed Jan 2010 and came with a 5 year warranty as it was fitted by a WB approved plumber.
I see that they are currently offering the same 5 year deal

Well worth having, and it is a great boiler.
