A young beginer is in no position to say whether the stand in was any good or not, there are plenty of classes with more than one instructor.
You may not have the gee or licence but that does not mean they are not ordered, likewise with the insurance, you may not see it but it is there. I get the feeling the lad doesn't think it's for him, the outlay may be steep for someone who no longer wants to go, but this is not the instructors fault.

In the first place, they paid for lessons with an instructor, not a stand in. Also, irrespecitve of age they certainly are in a position to say if they were left standing round for most of the class.

An awful lot of assumptions there.

Our dojo charges a discounted per lesson rate for the 1st month with 1st lesson free and no need to buy a gi until you grade the 1st time.
No sparring till you get insured though (£20 pa) drills and forms and walkthrough of techniques only.

It would be a shame for your son to give it up. My daughter is one step away from a black belt and believe me can really take care of herself!!

Honestly, I really doubt she can. This is a tad delusional. karate is fun, no doubt, but you should have a realistic assessment of its value. That's only my view though*.

To the OP - This does sound like GKR though. If not, the costs are very steep. What is the style? What are the qualifications of the instructor? You might find it illuminating if you google the instructor's name or his style.

A kids karate gi should be about 15 or so. Trade price will be around a tenner for a basic student karate gi. There is also alot of rubbish spouted about martial arts insurance. Much of the time the club is insured and individuals are not. There are some individual policies (the BJJA immediately comes to mind) but most are simply books and certs handed out by a style to justify the membership cost.

I doubt the hall care one jot about who is renting it.

Who is the contract with? the style? The instructor?

Wow, your martial arts training must have been exceptional, because nowhere does the OP describe the style of karate, or make any indication of what was taught or how, except that their child was taught by someone who wasn't an instructor. I didn't realise ESP was taught as a martial art. ;)

Personally i would say he's based that conclusion on the prices given by the OP, due to his next sentence being "if not, the costs are very steep".

Or maybe she's just been ripped off.

Which would explain why he then went on to ask what the style was......he provided some provisional assumptions, then asked for information so he could provide more accurate information.......whats the problem?
