Has anyone bought a multi fuel stove in Ballymena?

Options
I am at the 'looking' stage.
So I thought I would see if anyone else has bought/installed one to see what they think.
I have been into three different business's in Ballymena area asking about multi-fuel stoves, and am waiting on quotes. I want to be able to burn coal/peat/wood to warm the water and 12 radiators.
I want one to be 'hard working' apposed to one for ornamental purposes.

Yes I bought from Maurice Phillips two years back.

He has a great selection and as a fitter and heating engineer he knows what hes talking about
  • Thanks for taking the time to reply :)

  • I got a 5kw Stanley Oision but wish I'd get a 9kw as I'd originally wanted - was told the 5kw would be sufficient but just am not getting a good heat blast from it.

But thats because you are not burning on it correctly yet

Four bits of coal does not a fire make - nor one log
  • I burnt it full, almost, with homefire coal today, and whilst I did get a good heat for a couple of hours, it didn't deliver the heat I'm after. That was with a lot of coal, then maybe 3 dry logs at the end. This is bad because when the weather drops to - outside then how good will it be then, considering it's like 20c in Belfast today?

You don't want to be burning coal. It's the smokeless briquettes you need and I've explained time time again (as have many others) how to get the best from the stove

A 9kw stove in your house would be like putting in a furnace and you wouldn't be running the stove to the best as the heat would be too fierce
  • What's a smokeless briquette then explain? The coal I'm burning I believe is a briquette of anthracite.
  • Are you saying there is stuff hotter than this?

maybe too far for you but i can highly recommend the stove yard in newtownards. They will provide and install the stove and give excellent advice on your needs. My one heats all the radiators in the house and when they get going the windows are open even in winter.

About 6 months after i had mine installed a problem developed. I spoke to stove yard and they gave me excellent advice to sort out the problem - now no issues and a very warm house!
  • Thanks.
I have had the 'man from Wilsons' around and am awaiting the quote. Will be about £2600 I guess as this is approx the price the other two have quoted.
