Hi,
Apologies if this question has been answered in another thread but I did search - promise!
I have spilt Salicylic Acid (Top Care Wart Remover Liquid) on my carpet  . It has dried hard & white looking on my beige carpet. I have tried brushing it off but that hasn't worked. I tried using wipes etc last night when I spilt it and thought I had got most of it off the carpet. I have come home from work & it is pretty awful!
I would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions (other than replace the carpet  ).
Thanks in advance x

Does it say anything on the packaging of the Wart remover liquid? Has it penetrated the carpet? if its just on top maybe you could shave the carpet with a razor and remove it that way.0

It doesn't say anything on the packaging about furniture etc only eyes etc. Thanks for your suggestion. I did wonder about a razor blade as a last resort! Worried about having patches of thinned carpet though......I'm a bit heavy handed :eek:When I grow up I want to be a M.S.E.!!0

Salicylic (sp?) acid is aspirin. This is not known as a bleaching agent. What else is in the wart remover? Otherwise, shaving as OT suggests or creative furniture rearrangement"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0

That is very interesting - aspirin. I guess thats why the stain is whitish.
The packaging says 'Inactive ingredient: Flexible collodion containing alcohol an ether' and that means  ?.......
The stain is in the middle of the carpet in quite a small room so 'creative furniture management' is not an option. Thanks for the suggestion. When I grow up I want to be a M.S.E.!!0 -
Coffee table or a oriental type rug ?0

I think that stuff forms a plasticy coating when it dries. Not sure if it would dissolve with turps or nailvarnish remover. I would experiment first with some 'wartstuff' on scrap fabric to see what dissolved it and then on a non-visible part of the carpet to check the solvent (turps etc.) didn't ruin the carpet !0

I got this stuff on my brand new carpet too. Just a few wee spots where it had been transferred from foot to carpet. I haven't found anything that will shift it. At least my carpet is a sand colour, but I can still notice it.
Also managed to get it on a quilt cover and it refuses to budge from it either.
Unfortunately, it doesn't show for a couple of days after you get it on the carpet or other fabric. That's how I managed to get it in a few places before I realised what it did.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Thanks for the ideas. I think the razor blade will be the way to go - I'll just have to be careful and do it a little at a time. When I grow up I want to be a M.S.E.!!0

Slightly different but I spilt dark dye on a cream carpet and rather than shaving it, I took a pair of nail scissors and snipped into it from the top down so it was still removing the stain but left the bulk. It is hard to describe but it was small cuticle scissors pointing downwards slicing into it and then brushing and fluffing upwards when done.
Once you get the bulk of the lump off with a razor the above method may help make it look more natural. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
You could try surgical spirit - you might want to test an area just incase it leechs colour out of your carpet!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money
