Morecambe v St Anne's v Lytham with a 3 and 1 year old

Hello all

Well as the title says we are gonna take the kids to the seaside on Sunday, along with the rest of the country I would guess lol.

I cannot remember the last time i went to any other resort bar Blackpool or Southport and was going to try somewhere different.

We want a nice walk on the front, with a nice beach, ice cream van and chips.

Which is best and why?

Thnaks in advance

  • If you go to the St Annes bit of Lytham St Annes the beach is huge. I'm not sure if everything still opens at this time of year but there are bits and bobs of things on the prom and there are some arcades on the pier. At the weekend there's usually a bouncy castle and donkeys. There are quite a lot of places to get ice cream, build sandcastles and all that stuff. The Lytham bit has less beach because it's the estuary and there isn't really any seasidey stuff. If it's hot it'll be busy but in the middle there's Fairhaven where there's a lake with a play area, loads of ducks, cafe and grass to run about on but it's near the beach too.
  • As above. The best beach is St Annes by the pier. All of the vendors are still open too. A few rides by the newly opened cinema on the front for the little ones.

My vote would be St Annes ;more to do for everyone ,shops on the high street cover all needs the chippy near to Marks and Spencers is really nice ,the pier has amusements/rides for smaller children.further up the prom is a paddling pool if the tide isn't in(which it usually isn't!) donkey rides .Enjoy yourselves

I don't know Lytham or St Annes but will put a vote in for Morecambe. Went there last year with 3 grandchildren and we had an amazing time. With respect whoever said the beach isn't very good must have been in another town! It's amazing, vast - look at Morecambe Bay when the tide goes out and you can't see the sea for the miles of sand. And before anyone says it's not safe to walk on, I don't think a family with a 3 y/o and a 1 y/o is going to be walking that far out to the sinking sand area :D (which is very well marked, and even has its own guides). We walked along a mile plus of safe sand. Happy Mount Park was an eye-opener, completely refurbished in the last couple of years with acres of things to do for everyone, miniature train rides, swingboats, playground and playland, splash park, a cafe, so much I can't remember it all. I do recall it has ice cream vans though, both inside the park and outside at the car park.As for chips, there are enough chip/burger/fish type cafes to keep a whole nursery of little ones happy, we didn't have a bad meal the whole time we were there.

(And I discovered all the £ shops, which we southerners don't have :D). All resulted 3 very happy GC and an also happy, if somewhat broke, Grandma ;)

Come to think of it, I might take them back next year!

  • I went onto St Annes beach today (all of a 5 minute walk!), the tide was in and my little girl had a paddle and made lots of sandcastles. The donkeys were on the beach along with the huge slide and bouncy castle..... super fun!
