Obviously you have no idea how bad debt reserving, customer risk profiling etc all works.

I guess you know better than the OFT on how much it costs

I was not saying that your comment was wrong. you justify £12.00 of a charge for a failed direct debit or mis-payment or anything else.... Seen as I'm just a poor old customer with no idea how banks and credit card companies are trying to rip me off.
  • I'm with you Mackers, because i've never had to pay fees before I didn't know how rotten they could be. I thought loyalty counted for something, I have been with my credit card company for 3 years, have never missed a payment and always paid in full (until this one blip) Obviously, i'm not making them much money so they stuck me with the £12 and £45 interest, it would happen at Christmas with my biggest bill so far wouldn't it?!!! Maybe I am stupid for being such a good payer in the past. I appreciate they are running a business, but there doesn't seem to be a logic button on their system, I am now cancelling my credit card, i'm sure they are devastated :rotfl:
  • Capital One were fine with me up until Aug 05 when I suffered a brain hemmorrage, it was at that stage being off work on SSP and very little sick pay did I start to get into trouble.

The banks answer was to cancel my direct debits (Yes NOT pay them) and they have racked up charges of over £4000 since then which I'm also trying to reclaim.

After about 3 months of help Capital One went sour on me and every charge possible was landed with no reason why or offer of help other than to pay the outstanding!!

Did you try calling them at the time, i would have thought they would have looked at what had happened to you, and set you up on some sort of plan, they normally have a specialist unit, that deals with intsances like this. Think they freeze interest and charges and arrange lower payments or something.

Interest was frozen and lower payments agreed but they removed this after 3 months even though I'm still off work to this day.

Yes you can. The claiming back charges crusade was initially aimed at credit card charges and not bank account charges.

Anyone reclaimed payment protection/creditcare etc., imposed by the
CC Companies. After receiving my statements over the past six years,
I was aghast at the payment protection insurance/cardcare etc., which
had been deducted, it is not mandatory yet it was still taken.
  • Well it continues, had a call from Capital One this evening asking the usual old questions and I posed a question if they had received my letters which I sent on the 16th Jan.

The lady claimed they had no record of any letters. Lesson learned, send them recorded delivery then they have no argument. I'm going to give them the benifit of doubt on this, wait the duration and see if I get a reply.
  • Statements arrived this morning and I have worked out the charges for the 6 year period they came to a little under £3k for both cards with Capital One.

2nd letter drafted, details of charges included and sent recorded delivery to Capital One this afternoon, not a bad days work.

I'll keep everyone informed on my progress.
