How essential is a toner?

I haven't used a toner for years, can't say I have noticed any difference in my skin.
I use aqueous cream and water for cleansing, then Nivea moisturiser.0 -
should you moisturise at night? i always thought it would clog pores if used too much hence why i dont use any at night or on days im home0

I do now. I didn't need to when I was younger. Too much mosituriser just irritated my skin.
It's a lot dryer now so I do most nights - generally Astral or a similar basic cheaper.0 -

The natural brand Dr hauschka seems to think a night cream is not necessary. All others obviously suggest it because it's an extra item to sell us.
My skincare routine has 5 stepscleanser, toner, serum, moisturiser, eye cream, but I'm a bit of a beauty products junkie. For me eye cream would be the most important as that's where the lines and wrinkles form.
