  • They have the green charge card, but I haven't seen it online for ages.
:)Gone from Poor to Excellent Credit. Proud of my recovery. Never going back to the sub prime! :)
NatWest Select, Advantage Gold, First Reserve & e-ISA account holder. Holding: NatWest Platinum MasterCard, Virgin MasterCard and American Express Gold charge card.
  • Why would you want that?
do not work in many places. Go for cap one master card with 1.25%
  • Was a bit disappointed to find that my local dentist wouldn't accept my Amex CC - left a bad taste in my mouth. :(

What is your problem with Amex? You constantly post the above rubbish in every thread that mentions it! I use an Amex card for pretty much all of my day to day spending with no problem at all.

I'm with you Olly, in fact my Amex is my longest standing card. I think he's getting mixed up between saying a lot of places don't accept it without realising that at the same time a lot of places do.

Maybe he was refused one and is still bitter and twisted!
  • True. Apart from my dentist and Holland Barrett, my AmEx has been accepted everywhere else i've spent (even my local independent Japanese restaurant). However, always best to have a back up card.
  • Couldn't agree more, nothing worse than having it "declined" when in fact they actually don't accept it!
  • If you trawl their site you can still find it but it produces a PDF form for you to complete manually and post in rather than an online application form.

Since AmEx became more sensible with their merchant fees more and more companies are accepting it.

Trying to advice people mainly 1st times not to fall into Amex card thinking it is the best for reward, when it is not. For very high spender travel reward may work out better, however 95% of people are not.

If ths is the case why do people go on about having two cards one master or visa card.

The cashback or rewards offered by Amex are worest than the cash back offered by Cap One at 1.25%.

The reason I go on about it is because some people will get the Amex card and than get 2nd visa or master card. When Cap One card would have given the batter reward to start with and no need to carry two cards. Also more chance of going into debt. Less cards one have the better in a lot of cases.

Some Amex fan boys make it sound like Amex have the best reward when this is not the case.
If not true send me the link or information showing Amex rewards are better than 1.25% cashback.

For your information I am not mixed. The places that accept Amex also accept other cards mainly VISA and msater cards. The reward on Amex are not worth more than 1% on average, so no point to carry two cards when one card will give you 1.25% cashback which you can use it on anything you like.
By having two cards more chance of people going into debt or unable to keep an eye on spending.
