Any thoughts on this pet food

I have been trying to find a decent dog food for my 2 labs which isnt going to cost the earth. I have found this food and I would if anyone would be willing to share their thoughts. Ingredients are as follows

Lamb Meal (minimum 26%), Rice (minimum 26%), Maize, Chicken Fat, Barley, Beet Pulp, Full Fat Linseed, Fish meal, Brewers Yeast, Minerals, Vitamins, Herbs (Algae, Vegetables, Cereals, Molluscs, Crustaceans, Seaweed (Kelp), Thyme, Peppermint, Yucca Extract, Turmeric, Ginger, Oregano, Anlae, Carrot Powder, Carob Powder, Paprika Pure, Dandelion Root, Fenugreek & Aloe Powder) Glucosamine, Chondroitin, Tocopherol Rich Extracts of Natural Origin.

Full details of food can be found here http://shop.mymaddog.co.uk/15kg-premier-lamb-hypoallergenic-lamb--rice-complete-dry-dog-food-380-p.asp

I would be paying £47.00 for 30kg so not a bad price.

Any thoughts would be much appreicated as I dont really know what I'm looking for!!

  • Hi, I haven't tried the one you're suggesting so can't comment on it, except to say it does still contain maize.

Have you thought about Skinners Field & Trial? (Stick to the Duck & Rice, Salmon & Rice & Turkey and Rice as these are gluton free)

Their Duck & Rice http://www.skinnerspetfoods.co.uk/products/field---trial-products/duck---rice/ is a great food - my lab does fantastically well on it (he is wheat intolerant), he's bright and happy and has a beautiful coat. RRP is £22.99 for 15kg and I'm lucky that the pet shop in the next town stocks it.

You can usually pick it up online for about £20 (with free delivery) and have just had a quick check and come across a bag for just over £19 with 10% off a 2nd bag http://www.medicanimal.com/setSessionLocale/product?product_id=B20955&newLocale=en_GB&ptc=googlebase&utm_source=uk_googlebase&utm_medium=uk_googlebase&utm_campaign=uk_googlebase (which would be just over £36 for 30kg)

I used to feed Wainwrights before which I'd also highly recommend (again wheat free) but is a lot more expensive at around £33.50 for £15kg.

I'd second Skinner's Field and Trial - I shifted my pup on to the puppy version as soon as I got him (he was on T*esco puppy) and his coat is much improved, he's eating well and is in every way a normal, happy pup. I'm completely cream-crackered but that's another story :D

  • For that price, I'd want no maize.

I third skinners, get two 15kg bags delivered (Stick with salmon and rice and duck and rice - the rest are not as good) for £40 a vet uk.

Also look here, grain free duck and potato, 30kg for £55
