Hi there
Im not sure if this is actually a problem or not. Basically my mother and I both bought laptops at the same time about 2 months ago. We both live seperatly and have different types of routers.
A week after mum got hers her start up screen changed and came up with a box asking for a password. We hadnt set one up so just pressed enter and it let her in.. then when she went to shut down the box changed. The old way was boxes in a row with Shutdown, log off, restart and hibernate. The new box that popped up was a dropdown list of those things????
Anyway i have been using mine at my mums for a few weeks and yesterday mine changed to that aswell.
Also when you press enter on that random password box it comes up with another box saying something about the wireless network configuring, you wait a minute and it goes through to the normal opening page with the start bar etc and works fine.
Im back at home now and its still doing it.
I just wondered if this was some sort of xp update or something or if we have a virus????
can anyone advise me?

I dont think its a virus, but I do think that someone has access to her wireless network, especially if it affected yours ONLY when you went round there. I would advise you both set up passwords on your windows, just to be safe and ask your mum to secure her network. It sounds as though someone is getting free internet via her wireless network.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

XP changing the shutdown option boxes, and windows logon box is to do with a new .net framework, - have you been updating windows automatically or via the microsoft.com site at all - or installing the .net framework for new software? This is not an automated signature. I write this at the bottom of every message0

I think we have it on automatic updates ??? So its not anything to worry about then????0
