Anyone around who knows about 2.2l Vauxhall Vectra

We have a 2006 Vauxhall Vectra which we have owned for two years, has 101000 miles on it, and was a company car before that (FSH). Over the past month it has been cutting out occasionally when my husband has been stop-start in queuing traffic. After a good few minutes, it will start again. However on Friday it wouldn't start. He took it to a local garage (not a main dealer, but a big garage that runs diagnostics) and they weren't sure but said it 'could be' the fuel sensor. They replaced this, and the car has ran okay since then.
Until today when the same thing occurred. As DH was near the garage he called in, once it started up again, and spoke to the head mechanic. He ran a diagnostic check on it and didn't recognise the error code. He had to ring Bosch who told him that it was the fuel pump and would also need a new regulator. Apparently Vectras went through a period of recall because of this fault. Garage couldn't do anything at 5pm tonight so said they would ring us tomorrow with a quote for the parts/ repair.
I know I am clutching at straws and I guess as the car has done over 100K miles I should expect things like this to happen, but I'm particularly hopeful about the Vauxhall recalling the 2.2l petrol versions, and wonder if anyone has any advice about what to do next
(or how much it's likely to cost to fix, given that last Friday cost over £200)
Thanks if anyone can help

Don't believe everything you read on the internet
Here is a new Bosch fuel pump for a 2.2 petrol 2006 vectra for £120 all in:

From Eurocarparts.com
However, let the garage diagnose it correctly first, it could be any number of things and you'll need diagnostic equipment to tell for sure. See if they can run it until it fails on them (if it's a regular/reproducable fault). If users on an owners club forum also report exactly the same problem and the replacement fuel pump to be the solution, then it might be worthwhile doing. a garage should be able to monitor fuel pressure via the ECU though, and that would point to probelms with the fuel pump.
It appears that the 2.2 petrol vectras were plagued with high pressure fuel pump and pressure regulator problems. Here's a watchdog article on them:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2009/01/vauxhall_cars_that_suddenly_lo.html
But it appears that loss of power and "limp home" mode rather than engine cutting out was the problem.
It does appear to be a common fault with the 2.2 petrol engines across the Vauxhall range, so check your cars documentation to see if it's been sorted under warranty or if it should be your first port of call. Who knows, due to public outcry and Watchdog, Vauxhall might be willing to offer some good will on the price of parts to fix the problem???0 -
Just thought I would give you an update. DH rang Vauxhall who said that our car did need recalling but it was only the regulators that they were replacing free of charge, and not fuel pumps. So it is booked in for Monday to have the regulator changed. They said hopefully that will fix it. I Hope so too but We're really not that lucky :-)
Do you think that it is the regulator and not the actual fuel pump?
Car works fine until it's in stop-start traffic then conks out and has to be left for several minutes until it will start again?
