Sound gone dead - High Definition Audio Bus problem

Hi all,
Sorry to bring forth yet another issue but after updating a load of drivers I ended up with no sound. Was working OK before I 'Improved' things.
I suspect that I have stupidly installed some soiftware that my system cannot run and that it is now looking in the wrong place for my hardware or looking for something not present (Been searching the net)
I have spent an age trying to sort this but though not terribly essential, it would be nice.
I get the message : problem installing Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus when I try to re-install
FWIW Its a Dell Dimension E520
running XP Home Sp3
Dell Computer - SysInfo D8SDN2J
I have tried removing the device (From add/remove AND device manager), AND tried removing the software (Revo) and putting original Op Sys disc in tray and many other configs but to no avail.
Shut down, rebooted many times - after download - before re-install - after re-install.??
Getting a bit tired now so heres hoping.
Thanks

Without further info I assume I was meant to run the Fix-It software?
After going round the houses downloading and running various options, all I got was -
Microsoft Fix it Center found no problems on this computer."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
no, there's a patch called KB888111, it's difficult to find a direct microsoft link as they keep moving/hiding it, (and should be superceded by sp3 anyway) that may help (or may not).!!

Hi Closed.
Well something screwed my system up anyway. Start/Run/Msconfig wouldn't run.
Sys restore wouldn't run. Strange happenings.
Did a forced Sys retore anyway and got it back to the bare basics WITH SOUND!!
Now about to re-install stuff to bring it up to spec again.
One question, closed.
As you are aware it is a Dell but I am using a Hanns G (HW191D) WIDESCREEN monitor. Where do I find the driver to get it to display correctly.
Do I need to know the graphics card make/model too?"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0
