Faulty laptop from Gumtree

I went to view it and there was a small crack on the back which the seller had glued back on. The seller said it doesnt affect the performance of the laptop.
the fan was also ever so slightly noisy which i also mentioned and the seller said its always been like that.
I decided to buy the laptop, paid £180 in cash.
As soon as I got home, I switched on the laptop and the diplay screen was completely blank. I could hear the fan blowing very loud like a hairdryer. I immediately picked up the phone and called the seller.
The seller is refusing to refund saying it was working when I took it.
Can somebody please advise of what options I have at this point as obviously I'm extremely annoyed and unhappy.

Look on the bright side, at least you have a new hairdryer...0
