Hi there
I bought a bicycle through Evans recently and entered into an agreement with Clydesdale Financial Services to pay for it over time. All has been fine until recently, when my bank (long story) did not send out a whole months-worth of direct debits. I got a letter shortly after that from Clydesdale (none of my other creditors reacted like this) saying that I had been charged £20 for a returned direct debit and a further £22.50 for a late payment - so £42.50 for being late with a payment for under £9!
I just wondered if this type of agreement is covered by the OFT guidance? I wonder if writing to them and to the FInancial Leasing Association about this?
If anyone has any tips or guidance I would be most grateful - I am willing to take this all the way!
Many thanks

Direct Debits are not send out like Standing Orders, they are called in. If the DD was returned due to a technical glitch of your bank and not due to insufficient funds, then the bank should cover any penalty charges (if necessary).6722kane wrote:All has been fine until recently, when my bank (long story) did not send out a whole months-worth of direct debits.
Talk to your bank, if they admit liability, let them sort it out.0
