    All this does'nt matter.

It is covered by NO WARANTY, sorry, don't mean to be offensive, but the car is out of waranty. Full stop
Ford, VX VW etc it simply doesn't matter.

    Waranties are simply based on statistics, ie;

A batery can last a year or 10 years, the same can be said for the clutch. engine, gearbox etc etc

The bottom line is that if it goes wrong out of waranty then it's yours to fix.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I had a cam belt go on a scenic at 55,000. It had just turned five years old that month !.

Unlucky. I know of a Clio still on the original cambelt at 95k 10 years old.

If it's an 07 with 53k on the clock then it meets neither criteria of 5 years or 70k. It's 4.5 years old at the oldest.

Not quite. Depends on how long it was sat in a field waiting to be sold.

Here are 1000's of cars at Grimsby waiting to be sold:

Here's thousands of "new" Citroens and Peugeots parked in a field waiting to be sold...

Mine was out of warranty when the cam belt went in July. I've had a brand new engine fitted, courtesy of Citroen. Mind you, mine was supposed to be changed at 10 years/100k miles, and it went at just under 50k miles and under 6 years. And mine was a known common fault. In the OP's case, it does look like it might be hard luck, as it was so close to replacement time.

for comparison,my near 20 year old golf is closing on 100,000 miles and is currently on its third cambelt,,fitted by me for only about £30.

Whos bright idea was it to design interference engines anyway?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Methinks you had a result, ie, the exception that proves the rule :T:T

Depends on what compression ratio you're looking for, how fast you want the engine to rev and how tall the engine block can be. On a small car, you've not got much height so have to have a smaller combustion chamber to keep the compression ratio up. That means valves hitting pistons. On a van you've got plenty of height so can have a longer travel for the pistons and up the compression that way.

I think it's quite a common "exception" in the case of my specific vehicle - easier and cheaper for them to stump up for the repairs (where the vehicle owner is assertive enough) than to bother to issue a vehicle recall.

53k miles is a bit low BUT... Its around 4/5 years old.. So replacement was due/overdue?

Belt change can cost £700+ without having to repair any damage that you may have.

If you have a full dealer service history you may be able to negotiate the repairs with them. No full service
history then it still maybe worth writing to renault expressing your concerns at its early demise.

Normally i would get a belt changed early but if it was going to cost £700 - £1000+ then maybe i would think
nah it will be OK for another year?

Silly price. Dearest belt kit i ever bought was for a MK2 mondeo £68 complete kit with the extra pulleys required.
Good job i bought that the pulleys were cracking on the inside.

    Can being the operative word,

The job is inside a day easily and the parts are £100, so glad I can still do my own repairs:o

I still think you were lucky, loads of issues with citroen cambelts failing and no "gratitude" from the maker if you check it out, ;)
