Not sure if this is in the right forum - apologies if it is wrong
My son is studying architecture and has taken a years work experience. His salary is £12000 per year plus he got £700 in August to last him till February from the student loan. Should he be taxed (he was led to believe that the £12000 would be tax free)
Basically he is worse off then before as he was studying and held down two part time jobs.
Thanks f

Yes, students with paid jobs as work experience/sandwich years are taxed as normal.0

The 1 year of work experience will be 1000% better than 2 part time jobs when it comes to the end of his degree. The short term lack of cash will be outweighed by the quick job search! He should surely have saved a considerable amount of that £12k to go towards his future uni costs though!0 -
I agree with the comment above. There's value in doing it that can't be measured in pounds and pence.
A quick look at a salary calculator says his take-home will be £10,522.0
