Anyone suffering from fly issues

Is anyone suffering from a large number of flies in their home?

We had a few but came home last night and found around 30 in our living room. Its really wierd cos we live in a 3 storey townhouse and we only have the fly issue on the middle floor.

Last night it really freaked me out and H2B called our LL who reckoned he had at least 50 flies in his house!

Now we checked the entire house for anything that could be causing it but cant find anything:(.

So as a trial we've left all the windows and doors closed so we can try and pin point which room exactly seems to have the issue but its making me feel urgh and all dirty. I can assure you we're not dirty untidy people, far from it.

Anyone else or is it just us?

  • We have had a few the last few days but not as many as that!

Maybe next years young have come alive early due to the warmth and there won't be any next year!

Fileis in my hose have little chance either the cats get them and eat them or the fly spray does!

We have some massive spiders in the garden though, Big fat juicy ones....

We get them every year especially at this time of year. I always think we have a fly nest somewhere but can never find any. i also find they are dosile and sleepy, many die on their own and are easy to catch. we have before now found loads and it's not a sign of being dirty don't worry! our house is over 200 years old and I always thought it was part to do with that and living in a semi rural area!
They will go when the weather gets colder!

I think the warm weather has woken up a few last flies that are on their last legs. And yes, it's a big spider year here as well!

The worst fly problem we had was in a house that was only a few years old, but for some reason the flies loved the sunny front wall of our house, and used to crawl into the window frames on that side of the house, so if you opened the window it was like something out of a horror movie.

Huge spiders here too - nearly gave myself a panic attack trying to get past an enormous one sitting there on the stairs poking its tongue out at me the other morning.

Flies, not so bad, but some fat ones floating around. Wasps... they're everywhere! Am starting to wonder if there's a nest in the loft or something.

Do you have a cat? Could there be a dead 'something' lurking under a sofa or cupboard where it ran under and died after the cat brought it in? Maybe the spiders have been bringing dead things in. Looking at the size of 'em, they're probably on cows or at least sheep. Mind you, you'd have probably noticed a dead sheep in the lounge...

PS Oh yes - the ladybirds. Arghhhh, they're everywhere!

  • We seem to have Daddy-long-legs by the million at the moment. I am hoping the numbers will drop off soon as every time any windows are opened we get a dozen come in. I really don't like killing things (tend to even trap flies!) but have resorted to DH's fly swatter!

Eugh we had the same! About 50 BIG buzzy flies in our kitchen and conservatory, and no idea where they were coming from! They were all very slow though, so easy to swat!

Someone suggested we must've left some food out hidden somewhere, but as we have a dog who can even sniff out a stale ricecrispy, then unlikely!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Same... Ours seem to be outside my back door which means i cant leave the door open for fresh air.. its a total pain...

    They probbly cluster flies.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cluster_fly

I had around 1000 dead ones in my loft when i bought the house last year... ripped all the old insulation out (which had dead flies in and around), replaced to 280mm and then installed fly nets near the vents where the flies can get in. So far its still pretty clear up there. Altho probably they are hibernated behind the net.. At least they not in my attic area.

Cluster flies normally try and find somewhere warm for the winter and are often found on south facing walls.. if you have windows open they will get in. There aim is to hibernate for the winter (sleep and dosile) and emit a hormone which attracts other flies to them... so you prob get them clustering when they hibernate... in a nice fly ball.
