Car Insurance for the Military?

Hello all,
My car insurance is up for renewal and as a serving member of the military, I have recently found out that my normal policy does not cover me whilst on base.
I'm keen to not pay more than I have been and was just wondering if anyone knew of an insurer that covers me whilst on base and doesn't have a really expensive premium?
Thanks,

My experience of Insurance and people in the Armed Forces, is that they use brokers that have specific schemes for all their various requirements.
Google Car Insurance for Armed Forces.
You will find Abacuscover.co.uk , Trinity-ins.com, Towergate.
What I have found in the past is that Forces personnel have taken out standard Insurances and then not found them appropriate for their needs. This can be particularly the case, if they have to move base. Under standard Car Insurances, you can get stitched up with higher premiums when you have to change address, plus amendment fees. This is something you should always check. i.e what are they like, if you have to amend the policy details.
While you are checking Car Insurance, you should also have a look into other Insurances where particular Forces policies may offer you better cover. e.g. Contents Insurance, Travel. The comments I post are personal opinion. Thanks Huckster, thanks really helpful.
I did a quick Google search like you said and found Force Financial Car Insurance who offer policy switches between UK and Germany, cover on base and also whilst on tour. The premium looks pretty fair too.
I didn't even think about the fees for transferring address before, which has got me a bit concerned about how little I was covered with previously. It definitely seems that a dedicated insurance provider is the way to go.
Thanks again!0 -

Are you sure or is it a "bloke said in the naafi" type found out?. The only exclusions I've ever had have been if you take your car onto aircraft maneuvouring areas.0 -
People parking their cars on bases,in some parts of airports and sea ports, would have to discuss this with Insurers when obtaining quotes. Many will exclude cover, so best not to presume cover. Would certainly not recommend that people arrange cover online, unless on a specialist site. The comments I post are personal opinion. My guess would be that a standard policy will cover use on base excluding airside but surely the answer will be in your policy?
Looking at the three I have to hand, non exclude bases, all exclude airside use.0 -
I happen to have a lot of experience of HMF motor insurance as I started my work life next to a military base.
I've never seen an Insurer who specifically exclude a military base, I have however seen inexperienced insurance staff (There are plenty) who do not understand their own policies or the military.
As other posters have alluded to, I suspect they are getting confused as your on an RAF base and are saying they exclude "Airside". The definition of Airside is basically anywhere the helicoptors and aeroplanes have normal access to. It would be very unusual for RAF personal to use their own cars in somewhere the aeroplanes have access to.
To be able to go "Airside" you would normally be asked to provide specific proof you are covered for airside use.
If this is the case go back to the Insurers and find someone who understands insurance.
Alternatively if the above is not the case post on here with more details0
