  • Around 75% of consumers are on standard tariffs (source: DECC, 2010)

I didn't realise the figure was that high!

They said prices would be held until the end of September so not surprised by this price rise to take effect from November 3rd.

Rates for the South West region will be
    Gas 3.87 from 3.20 + £63 standing charge
    Electricity 13.49 from 11.76 + £63 standing charge

I would rather trust the dear old Co-op though than any of the Big Six ;)

Well I'm happy with the £50 discount I got for a single fuel switch and the significant savings I've had for 4 months. At least it isn't a 40% electricity increase that I would have being paying Scottish Power from 1st August

I would disagree their pioneer tariff is £295 more a year than my current Scottish Power deal. I suggest you put your annual consumption into a comparison website. There are a number of cheaper alternative suppliers than the big 6 e.g OVO & FU.

    My Consumption.

    SP Region
    5200 Kwh Elec p/a
    17000 Kwh Gas p/a

No Doub't you could end up with a much cheaper tariff.

Hi Gerrard, having switched from npower just recently I am looking for good customer service and a simple tariff and simple accurate billing and then hopefully I won't need to be in constant contact with them as I was with npower. When I checked using kw usage the co-op were cheaper for us, and £50 off first bill. There are no tie-ins so free to switch if I need too. They only launched in May and the switch was trouble free.

Well, I'm happy with them too, like meggsy.

I joined them as a pre-launch customer in their trial period from December last year. Their tariff was pretty much ridiculed on here, but I'm still on that tariff until the date of this forthcoming price rise which is far cheaper than most of the rest now - as they've all increased since then.

Every time I've done a price comparison, a different name always comes out top. No doubt, big MSE fans enjoy switching regularly, maybe even a few times a year. I'm now a convert to the "avoid the hassle" approach, having had issues with meter mix ups, inaccurate billing, being billed twice etc etc. Then there's the nightmere of getting hold of someone if you need to. Then, when you finally do, realising that you need to get hold of someone that can actually help youand not the very friendly-but-no-use-whatsover joker you end up being put through to. It shouldn't be that difficult to bill for gas and electricity, should it, yet we all know what a shambolic mess some companies have made it.

The Co-op will never be the best deal - they admit that - but they're going to be amongst the best. They're doing a far better job than several of my previous suppliers. My bills are accurate, payments are taken when they say they will be, for the amount they say it will be for. Not much to ask (you'd have thought). They reply to emails very quickly. I'm staying put.

There was only one deal cheaper than the Coop for my area and annual consumption (electric only) when I did a comparison when SP hiked my leckie up by 40% iat the end of July. The £50 single fuel discount was the highest guaranteed "cashback" as well as no exit penalty. It's a shame they have put their prices up but it was expected. If I factor in the banked 4 months savings and the cashback the break-even comparison point is significantly better that had I stayed with SP.

Time to do my comparisons again but I'm not fixing, for the same reasons as a few months ago, whilst the economy and oil prices are in such a state of flux.

EDIT: The comparison websites haven't been updated yet but adjusting for my new price 10.83p per kwh (region 14 v2.1) http://www.cooperativeenergy.coop/assets/documents/price-list-v2.1.pdf I'm struggling to find anything cheaper variable or fixed. Ovo is closest.

Received an online letter from Co-op this morning advising of the price increase. Dividend points are earned for giving a monthly meter read so could amount to 600 annually for dual fuel also points for the amount spent on energy, food, electrical, petrol etc.,
    It all helps ;)

Been with Ebico for years, hassle free but more expensive than others.
Decided enough was enough and took the plunge after getting the green light from MSE only to be sent the letter a few days later that the coop prices would rise in November!

Comparison sites are showing confusing results.
I've got money supermarket telling me coop will save me £415.79 with confused.com telling me coop will save me £170.41??

Same with online energy saver 15 from Scottish Power, £499.71 from Money Supermarket, £254.33 Confused.com???

How am I supposed to know whether or not the increase has been taken into account and what is the point of camparing with such wild differences?

We are high users 20508kwh gas and 5995kwh electricity.
I don't want to swap just to save (maybe) £14 a month.
