National Grid Metering Gas Meter Exchange Programme?

Hi,

We had our Gas Meter changed a while ago, I can't remember exactly, but it must have been a couple of years of so!

Today I 've received a letter from National Grid Metering, saying that they have Identified my meter as either of an age or type that needs changing.

I am a bit concerned as
a) The meter was changed not so long ago (I think by British Gas) and
b) They say they will need access to my property even if the Meter is outside, which it is (I don't remember the last workman needing to come in).

Should I have cause for concern! Has anyone else had a letter from this Company?

Thanks

Sarah

we had one to saying they would be coming on the 17th of jan,to change the meter,i have no intention of having a day off work, and no intention of letting them in when i get home from work and will be cooking dinner for the kids ,you can bet your life the cost of my gas will go up when they do get round to changing the meter,,

i would have rung to cancel them coming but it was not a freephone number so why should i incur costs

    This is normal.

This is required for safety reasons as they would need to make sure all the gas devices in the property are turned off. They can not blindly turn off the gas outside of your property and then turn it back on again later.

If you have reason to believe the letter is not genuine - which I surmised was your concern - ring Transco.
  • And yes your gas bills/amount will go through the roof. My meters got changed last summer as they said they was too old and needed replacing. Both gas and electric and my bills have got a lot higher so be prepared for that.
