hi,
i've an old laptop which I'm hoping to get working so my mum can take it into hospital with her in a couple of weeks. Whenever I switch it on, it continually reboots itself unless I switch off the wireless button on it.
If i were to buy a wireless adapator and simply plug it in, is it liable to work ok then? or do i need to get a new wireless card.
the laptop is about 7yrs old. i get the blue screen of death if i press f8 upon switch on and disable auto reboot. the wifi card inside is an intel pro/wirelss 2200bg network connect. Or do i just buy a new one of those and plug it in?
thanks,

isn't the answer to the first paragraph to turn it off - do they have wifi and allow laptops in hospitals nowadays?
if it's got a factory restore partition, or windows disc, reinstalling windows is probably the easiest solution, assuming you don't want any data on it.!!

if the wifi is switched off, the laptop will turn on, but can't connect to the internet. yes mum is allowed wifi - the hospital have a few laptops but can't guarantee she'll get one - she's going to be in approx 8wks in isolation having a bone marrow transplant.
not got any discs to reinstall, just trying to find an easy (ish) way to getting laptop working. ive found a usb wireless adaptor on amazon for £10 which i'll get if it wil make it work!0 -
what's the make and model of laptop, XP?
reinstalling the drivers might help!!

have come across some older machines like that where you have to let it boot fully THEN turn the wifi on in order for it to work. Does this apply to this one ???......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

sadly, no. it just switches itself off and reboots.
laptop is a fujitsui siemens amarillo. I've found the drivers for it - do i just load them onto a memory stick and re-load into my old laptop?
thanks for all the advice.x0 -
yes, you can do it that way. Uninstall and delete the drivers for the wifi card, then reboot for windows to find the wifi card, and during the install wizard, point it to the drivers you've transferred onto the lappy......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
