Advice on postage to Malta

I've been contacted by someone in Malta who wants to buy an item I'm selling. I did originally state that I only wanted to sell within the UK. Any advice as to what I should do?

  • I'm not a regular seller but sent two packages to two different people in Malta when I sold some collectors plates for my Mum a while back.
The buyers were friendly and very reliable so my experiences of trading with Malta have been all positive.
However I guess it's entirely upto you. I personally think my items achieved better prices by offering them worldwide and I always ask for overseas buyers to contact me for postage rates before bidding.
Though you perhaps have to be a little bit extra careful when sending overseas.
I think you have to weigh up many factors - the potential buyers feedback, what the item is, how much it is worth etc. and decide for yourself really. Also make sure that the buyer is able to pay by a method that you can accept.(Paypal, cash in GBP or whatever)
But personally I've never had any problems in my limited experience of selling to Malta.

I too find it good to sell worldwide.

If your worried about pricing for posting the royal mail website is very good.

All you need is a some good kitchen scales. Weigh your item don't forget to add on packaging weight too and use this to find the price it will cost to send http://sg.royalmail.com/portal/rm/PriceFinderResults?pageId=pc_sltc_rm_results&keyname=rmPriceFinderResults&catId=23500532

Next add on your ebay fees then quote the price for postage to your customer.

If they win the bidding you will need to invoice them with the postage quoted to them added to the item price.

    I hope this helps.

Same here - is there a Maltese eBayer who's doing a lot of shopping?!

  • I have a cousin in Malta, probably him! :)

Although its probably because things aren't particulary cheap there!

Eg: 4GB Ipod Nano costs £110 in England (play.com) and £160 in Malta.
  • I have family in malta and most packages arrive saftly there when sent. Most of the people there are friendly so.. its up to you

Malta is probably my second biggest non UK market (after Italy for some reason).

Very nice people to deal with. Royal Mail seem to get stuff there reasonably quickly (I use Airmail Small Packets) and to date never had a problem.
