3 generations off to Taunton for a week 15-22 October, not sure if it will be half term week down there or not.
Anyway looking for stuff to do all ages, me and hubby in 60s; our 3 kids in 30s and 3 children 3-7 in age.
We will probably take turns babysitting in evening so any good restaurants and pubs would be a plus. We will have 3 cars so a variety of day trips will be possible.
Would like to know about things we might not otherwise find eg nice farmshops, good walks, discount outlets; good playgrounds etc.
It should be an amazing holiday - for thefirst time we have a posh house with an indooor swimming pool!

I've posted an answer in the "Minehead" thread about the West Somerset Railway and it could be an idea for you, travelling from Bishop's Lydeard (6 miles or so from Taunton) and have a day at the seaside in Minehead. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3515391
The Quantock Hills are good for walking. If you want to travel a bit further, The Donkey Sanctuary near Sidmouth is free (donations welcome) and has several walks http://drupal.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk/taxonomy/term/34
Hopefully it isn't half term week as we'll be overnighting in Taunton on the Sunday on our way to North Devon for the week.0 -
Half term around here is the following week.
I drove from Taunton to Clarks village (outlet village) in Street during August - about 20 miles, took around 40 minutes as it's country roads.
Back up at J21 (Weston super Mare) is Puxton Park - great place for the kids to play and it has a farm shop attached.
Hopefully someone more local to Taunton will come along (I'm about an hour away to the north).
Have a good holiday0 -
Vivary Park is lovely. Nice bandstand, fountains, play area for the kids and ducks to feed.0

Taunton has a good pizza express, the donkey sanctuary is a fair way, but wonderful and free. The cafe there is unexpectedly good. There is a really good playground - but I can't explain how to get there.
Exmoor Zoo is about as far as the Donkey sanctuary and ACE.
The Mall at Cribbs Causeway about an hour/45 min for shops.
Have a great time. Look out for the camels, the big wicker bloke and the T rex on the motorway. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
The Somerset Carnival will be going through Taunton on the 15th, might be nice for the kids to watch,
