Nearly New car - service question
I've finally found a new (used) car to buy and before I pick it up at the weekend I'd like some opinions on the servicing issue.
The car is 6 months old and the dealer has said that they would give it a service before I take the vehicle. The first service wouldn't technically be due until March next year and then the service interval would be every 12 months or 10,000 miles.
With the car being serviced now, would the next service be due September 2012 or another 6 months on from that at March 2013 as would be marked in the service handbook. The vehicle would only average 6,000 miles per year so time would always come before mileage.

"It depends". If the service is a proper one done to the manufacturers standards for the next service due then the next one is September 2012. If its like many "services" done when they sell a car it'll be no more than an oil and filter change so to keep the manufacturers warranty you'd need to do one in 6 months.0

Which is roughly, for most cars, the first service anyway. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

Why not get a credit note off them to perform the free service when it is due, rather than making a balls up of the service records? If they offered a free service now, surely there's no difference offering it in six months?0
