Out of interest, are you a secretary now? Unless it was a very junior secretarial position (where I'd be looking for a college leaver), I wouldn't interview someone for my team who didn't have legal (or possibly medical - similar level of accuracy required) secretarial experience.

Yes I have secretarial experience now but not legal which I know will be difficult to break into. If I had to work 6 months to a year for free though I would to get some experience and I wouldn't be afraid to put myself out there.
Thank you Nicki for the words of encouragement. I already knew the solicitor route was very difficult to go down and I had decided I would just be happy to gain a law degree and show I had achieved something.
I knew somebody who had a pyschology degree which qualified him to be a store manager at Lidl so I was working on the assumption a degree doesn't have to be job specific, it can just show you are capable of learning and working hard.
Mind you that was many years ago and more recently I interviewed people for my job role as an administrator and it was quite depressing the number of graduates who applied :-(

If you have secretarial experience, and can show a good level of accuracy you probably would stand a good chance. But seriously, don't EVER offer to work for up to a year for free!!!! Aside from the fact that's it's undoubtedly illegal, what would you live on?!!
