I want to become a Solicitor. Can it happen?

I never applied my self in school.
And now, I'm stuck in a dead end job, but I was wondering whether I could re-train as a solicitor?
I'm not really sure what it would entail, I mean, I would preferably like to keep my current job, and study at the same time. It's just all a bit vague at the moment.
I would like to become a solicitor as it has interested me for absolutely years. I'm always looking at wierd and wonderful law facts, but I just pondered for a second and wondered whether I could actually become one!?
If anyone has done it, or knows anything, please let me know!
Thanks.

A key skill for a solicitor is the ability to research. What information have you found for yourself?0

You need a law degree to start with.0

The only advice I can give is research it thoroughly. After the law degree, and LPC, you have to secure a 2 year training contract with a law firm. Competition is ASTRONOMICAL for training contracts. The CVs that make it through to interview stages are the head girls/boys, members of debating societies, A* students and the real "creme" of the class. They have often secured summer student work placements in law firms during their studies.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Not necessarily.
However, you can do a law degree (LLB) with the Open University if you choose the graduate route.

Your previous posts show that in the space of a year you have also considered becoming an electrician, a kitchen fitter and a talent agent ... Perhaps you should sit down and work out what you really want, as these roles are extremely varied!0

But does the OP have a first degree?0 -
I'm not sure that being a solicitor has much in common with looking at weird and wonderful legal facts - a bit like being a doctor isn't really much like being House MD.
Could you ask a solicitor near you for a week's unpaid work experience/to let you job shadow them for a day/if you can take them out for coffee to find out about their job? If you find you hate it, much better to waste a week now then years of training. If you can't find anybody who'll talk to you - even for coffee - then I'd say your chances of getting a training contract later on are zero.0 -
You don't need to be a graduate if you take the legal executive route

A legal executive is not a solicitor!0
