Car Insurance for ex-company car drivers

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone out there new of a good car insurance company/broker that dealt with ex company car drivers?

My wife opted out of here company car scheme and has bought a new car, which she will use for business mileage (she's a medical sale rep).

We have been trying the normal people Direct line/Norwich Union etc, but the have all come back with quotes for 2k+ . The thing is that they won'g give here any no claims discount as she has had claims in the last three years, all of which were not here fault (the car was damaged whilst parked) but she had to report them, company policy, now they are being held against her.

I know we should have checked this before we bought the car :(

Is there anything else that we can do??

Thanks
Satpal

Hi - sorry to hear of the problems you are having.Online sites cannot think outside the box so with some non fault accidents on her record your wife clearly needs the help of an independent broker such as A Plan whose customer service is first class. They are often able to assist with problems like yours. They have branches across the south east and midlands but my local number for them is 01256 469916.If you have proof that the costs of the various non fault accidents were recovered in full this could help.

    Best of luck

The car that hit her while parked - did the driver stop and give his details. If it was a hit and run then it would certainly count as a claim against your wife. Remember, it's no claims discount, not no blame discount.

Secondly, you may continue to find premiums are high because of your wifes occupation. Insurers have this mortal fear of medical sales reps giving lifts to top plastic surgeons and slamming the door on their fingers as they get in the car. No more fingers, no more operations - cue huge claim for future loss of earnings. The same applies for football managers and showbiz agents for similar reasons - the high earnings potential of their potential passengers.

A few things here! I sold motor/home insurance for several years.

Regardless if the company managed to claim the money back for the damage casued whilst the car was in the car park, Insurers will not give what they refer to a company car intro.

There are a few ways around it, Get your wife to talk to her company car insurer and ask from proof of claim free driving. Now they will provide your wife with a letter that states how mnay yrs claim free driving she has. Now it when you get that, have a look and see what it says and then call the insurers to get prices and you will be able to say "My wife has xxx" proof of claim free driving.

Another idea - Do you drive? If yeah then u insure it fro your wife, providing you have 3yrs or more NCD you would be able to get a intro discount. Now you dont have to be the registerd owner or keeper, you can keep it in your wifes name as both you and your wife have insurable interest in the car.

    Hope that helps.

Ps - look a https://www.confused.com - They have the option for company car driving
