Housing Benefit big change

Dear Sirs,

Thank you for reading this. I am on incapacity benefit long term and I get dLA lower rates for care and mobility as well as housing benefit for a single person.

My flat is private and has 2 rooms. It is calculated as 450 PCM payable to the landlord.

I get 325 pounds housing allowance towards this. I do not have Local Housing Allowance it is calculated on the old system.

My girl no benefits in her own right not even single mother and she will be moving in end of October.

My question is really simple. When should I tell the housing benefit people that she is moving in. Can I claim income support for her???

Will this increase or decrease my housing benefit. She is in debt so has no disposable income at all. So really she can't contribute to the rent.

What are we entitled to??? Will my housing benefit go up or down. As I pay 450 a month I can't afford for it to be affected too much.

Thanks,

Steve and Annette

Btw, we are not blind so perhaps make your text smaller next time.
  • I would definitely check out the benefits calculator. Is your daughter on any form of payment plan for her debts? Is she working? The thing is, I'd be very surprised if she were able to use all her income to repay debts, then claim benefits for rent. I know that debts are not taken into account with things like, e.g., CSA payments. It would be expected that your daughter would make contributions to rent and bills from her income, then (if necessary) come to arrangements to pay debts with what is left.

  • If your daughter isn't working, why is she ineligible for benefits; how old is she?

Is she working? If so this will decrease housing benefit for you and will have to make up the shortfall, benefits dont take into account any debt so this is irrelevant what she has to pay out for other things.

Why would you claim income support for her? Why cant she work?

    Hi there,

I am a single mum with 5 children who rented a flat 8 weeks ago.

The Flat came with a Washing Machine and Cooker.

The Washing Machine is pretty old and has now broken down. After getting in touch with the Landlord I was told that it was my responsibility and that I would have to pay for someone to come out and fix it as well as call out charge and maintenance fees.

I found a Washing Machine for 180 in Argos and ordered it. But when I told the Landlord he told me I would have keep his machine to one side and never told me how long for.

The place is not a palace and I do not have loads of space to put things. It is simply a flat about a shop.

Argos would have taken the old washing machine under their recycling scheme. Now I have to keep it because the Landlords says.

What rights do I have. As the Washing Machine was the Landlords and I moved in as a Tenant I am sure he should cover the repair costs. But I do not know the law and therefore need your help. If I can tell him what the law states then he may have to back down.

This is what my girlfriend has asked me to put. Her name is Annette and as she has two Autistic Children she is very vulnerable and easy put upon.

    Please help,

    Steve

Not sure what has happened to the five kids though?

Not sure what has happened to the five kids though?

7 people in a 2 bed flat!!! 2 of the children special needs!!
OP I think if you all intend to live together you need a bigger place. A family of 7 would attract a higher LHA rate, how much depends largely on the age/sex of the kids and that's assuming all 5 are moving in with you?
