temporary car insurance - help!

I have found a buyer for my old car and they are collecting it at the weekend however I have just discovered that I can't get the car insured. I have transferred my insurance to my new car and they won't cover it for the additional days as they will only do a maximum of 14 days on the old car which are now up.

I tried to get some temporary cover but they said they won't cover it because it is worth less than £1000.

Any suggestions on how to get this car insured? I only need a week maximum.

Thanks!

  • do they only do up to 14 days or only up to 14 days at a time? Admiral would only do me 14 days but i could do another 14 days as once they were up.

http://www.ecarinsurance.co.uk/ will also do it for a car less than a grand as they did me a days insurance so one of my mates could take a car i was selling, for an MOT. Or just put the value to over a grand
  • They could only do a maximum of 14 days they said when I phoned up today, previously they had said 14 days at a time - or so I thought! This is more than........

    Will try ecar - thanks

Alternative is to try and get our buyer to insure it a few days before he collects.....
  • if somebody said 14 days at a time and today you were told it's a maximum of 14 days then one has got it wrong..... Best of three rules always count ;)

Why do you need to get it insured? When they buyer collects then they should have insurance arranged already.

Your policy may not cover them anyway and if they have a bump you will need to declare it when you renew your
policy. Big risk with the current cost of insurance.

    .

possibly because it's not SORN'ed and they don't want to risk it being stolen while it's not being insured
Also slightly disagree on the insurance arranged on collection. If you're interested in the car you can often turn up with the money on you to drive away; so you'll want it to be covered by the owners insurance so you / a mate can drive it third party on your own fully comp policy.
  • No if i turn up to buy a car i already have my insurance sorted. I wouldnt let a buyer drive a car i was selling under my insurance.

I like my NCB intact. Not risk someone who possibly doesnt even have a licence nevermind insurance and lose my NCB if they crash.

  • It needs to be insured until it is collected because it isn't SORN and is being parked on the road. So I have an agreed buyer but the car could still be stolen or crashed into. If it was nicked I could end up with no car, no insurance payout and no purchase! A friend of mine had her car nicked after having agreed a part ex - caused her a right hassle, so I'd rather not risk it.

Anyway the new buyer is happy to insure it from today, so problem solved - thanks for the help.

Who mentioned somebody driving under your insurance?
The car is insured so the new buyer can drive it on their own fully comp policy with third party cover. How do you imagine that will affect your insurance if they crash it?
