Help! Gloss paint removal advice please!

Hi lovely old stylers!

Hoping one of you has an answer for me please. We have recently decorated, and today I noticed a streak of White gloss paint on hubby's wool winter coat.

The initial panicky reaction ws to go for some nail varnish remover or similar, but I've sat on my hands until i know what is the right thing to do. Really don't want to ruin it as it was expensive.

All advice greatly appreciated!

Was the gloss paint water based or oil based.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Oil based, sadly!
  • You need to get it off before it dries.
I always keep a tub of "Big Wipes" in the house at all times.
Cost about a fiver from B & Q or Plumbcentre.
They have got me out of many a scrape with paint, silicone sealant or just stains like lipstick, nail varnish etc.
They do the same job as white spirit without the horrible smell and they are'nt greasy just very gentle and don't leave any residue.
Hope you get the coat sorted out.

    Hello Mrs T.

Last year I had some new flooring put down on my bathroom floor, the man who put it down left some gluey bits on the bottom of my bath panell and units, he was going to come back and my OH told him not to bother, the man said that hot soapy water would bring it off. Obviously it hasnt, would these big wipes get it off please.

OK so this is dried on and you don't have many options. Try picking off what you can with tweezers - if it's dried to a "plasticky" finish this may work. You may be able to shave/nail scissor it off if the wool fabric is quite thick - but practice first on an inside bit of hem/cuff. I don't think there is a chemical solution for a non-washable garment (if anyone knows better I'd welcome the info)

Sometimes you will find instructions or help on removing paint from unwanted areas on the tin. You may also find a web address - and on their web site they usually have a help section.

    So it's worth a browse.

  • I got some gloss paint on my favourite jumper. I put it in the wash straight away but its not come off.

    Its 83% cotton, 17% Polymide.

Any ideas how I can get it out, if I can? :(
