Tell her to go to the local jobcentre with the giro and two forms of ID, and inform them that she doesn't know what the payment is for and that the post office code is wrong as she can't cash it at her local one. They will either tell her where she can cash it if they have access to the PO code system, or they will take the cheque back and ask for a replacement payment to be issued with the code for her local office or issued into the same account that her benefit is paid to.0 -
My google brain is failing me! I can't seem to pull up the right search, any tips? Sorry, use and abuse someone else's brain if yours isn't working!!

Can't remember how I did it,either try google or the post office website.Failing that, you may be able to find out by phoning the post office line and getting them to tell you what post office it is by the numberIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
As I said, I am a little raw at the moment. I have been paying £500+ tax for years with the exception of maternity leave. I have just been made redundant and I'm entitled to IS and £53 per wk CTC. My friend out of her own choice has not worked for 3 years, and now gets a £250 grant, an additional £40 a week (nearly 2/3rds of what I'm entitled to) plus wages, WTC, CTC, help with childcare and 4 weeks HB and CTB run on. She has regular money coming in already, due to WTCs already kicking in. So yes, I do feel that that is a kick in the teeth and she's fully aware of how I feel about it, I don't beat about the bush with these things, and to be honest, she's overwhelmed by how much 'is being thrown' at her - in her words.
I, on the other hand, have no money coming in at all. Are you at least getting child support from the child's father? I can't get IS until approx mid Nov, because I'm getting WTC run on...or was supposed to be. They pressed the wrong button last week, and cancelled everything instead, which is now going to take 8 wks to rectify. To add to this, HB count my childcare money as income, as they will not accept that you have to give 4 wks notice to remove your child from nursery, so even though technically I'm on IS (but not receiving it) and technically getting WTC (but not receiving it) I have no income until mid Nov unless a bullet is placed up someone's backside. I have nursery fees to pay, alongside rent, council tax and the usual household bills - all with no income.
So forgive me if I'm peed off. I'm grateful that we have benefits, don't get me wrong, but it's seriously mismanaged. I am now about to lose my daughter's place at nursery, but if you are not currently working, then you don't need the childcare. so even when I do get a job, I will have no childcare. Please be mindful of passing judgement before you know the circumstances, it's fairly irritating. i would suggest the same to yourself - when you make comments such as you did in your post, you are passing a judgement on anybody else in the same position - possibly a new poster who would not post their story for fear of being targeted with similar comments.[/QUOTE]
Well, in your own words from your own post, you'll have money being 'thrown' at you in no time at all.
You might want to get in touch with housing benefit and council tax to let them know of your change of circumstances - then hopefully you won't have to worry about the rent being due.0 -
Child's father is currently in a secure unit following a breakdown after her premature birth - it's been delightful and he's still very ill.
No I'm not working, but you can't just take your child out of childcare - you have to give 4 weeks notice, as I said. Tax credits account for this with the run on, which they've now cancelled by accident.
HB and CTB see me as having an income due to WTC run on (even though I'm not receiving it) so I have to pay near on all my rent and council tax until WTC run on finishes (even though I'm not getting it).
And no, unless I sit on my backside for 26 weeks, I won't get any of the above perks. At 26 weeks, I'll get the £250 grant, but if I stay sat for a further 26 weeks, I will get all of the above. Not a chance in hell that I'm doing that, come hell and high water I will be working soon. I'm sorry, but to throw that amount of money at someone is ludicrous - and I stand by that....it turns out she wants the money quickly so she can take advantage of the Argos sale this weekend and buy a new TV :S0 -

Apparently they've become savy to that! The numbers are supposed to be anonymous (if that's the right way to express it!) to prevent fraud! Anyway, I've officially given up but thanks for the help x0 -

To be fair, the thread was about me trying to find out info for my friend (with a few comments that happened to spring onto the keyboard) It wasn't until someone suggested that I was a privileged individual that I spoke out about my personal circumstances (and I would also suggest that maybe I'm not the first to moan about benefits being messed up on this board, but maybe that's a misconception on my behalf, so do forgive)
