Hi,
Just letting people know that we finally had our court hearing today as our ex-landlord didn't return our deposit to us.
Result: Our full claim was awarded + court costs.
They (landlord and his girlfirend, who are technically both landlords) didn't even attempt to defend themselves and looked a bit shamed!

Congratulations. If the LL showed up in court, why didn't he have a defense. Sounds a bit strange or very naive.FREEDOM IS NOT FREE0

Nice one.
You have struck a blow for tenants everywhere!"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.

I've no idea! We've never been able to work him out. Seemed an ok bloke when he was our landlord, but ever since he decided to sell the house and we found another property to rent he's been a bit funny with us.
We moved out in June 06 and have been trying to get the deposit back since. He's been ignoring our letters and we only got a response when he had to reply to the official court letter.
We thought we'd have a fight on our hands, but when he didn't send us any evidence 2 weeks before the hearing things seemed strange again! We'd submitted quite a lot of things, ranging from the AST, to text messages sent/received and all letters exchanged (mostly from us to him).
Our best guess is that he did it as they needed the money (he's unemployed, and as we decided to move out they couldn't afford the mortgage on both properties is our best guess).
Surprisingly a friend happened to work with the female landlord (he only found out when he overheard her discussing 'problems with tenants') and apparently she had some photos of the property and the 'state' we left it in.
So when we heard that a little after submitting our claim we were confused to whether they thought they had a case, or whether they were just trying it on. Seems its the latter!0 -
Well done.
I hope they pay up now, and you don't get involved in having to incur the costs of sending the bailiffs in
