Long story short:Have an 06 santa fe 2.2 diesel 38k on clock.

Had what i assumed a dealer service for 40k last year, stamped in the book as such so as not to invalidate warranty.

Enquired about this years service, was told they had actually done a 30k service instead of the 40k one, despite stamping the book!

I asked them the price difference between a 30-40k service, it was £320 & £560 respectively

After speaking to the manager, i was told the only difference between 30k & 40k service was the fuel filter which needed to be changed & they would do that free of charge.

Why such a price difference between services?, any hyundia people out there pls feel free to reply :(

That is a big difference, but where does the air filter come into it?

  • Ok, yeah that is steep for a fuel filter, it maybe in a hard to reach location hence a bump up in labour but garages being garages the price difference is probably mainly a money spin.

^^ More likely, they set the full service price really high and hope people go for it. But when someone comes along and says:
Customer - "the place down the road does it for half the price"
Salesman - "ah, hmm ok let me speak to my manager!" <5 mins later> "i've spoken to the service manager and he says that our service is more comprehensive, but we can reduce the price by missing out some bits like the fuel filter, we can do the service for £300 and we'll do more work, stamp your logbook and clean/vallet the car".

9 times in 10 the customer is gonna go for that...... ;)

You see, by just being there the customer is saying "I can get it done cheaper, but I really want it done by a dealership". The salesman knows he's onto a winner as soon as you walk through the door :p

Does your manual or service book not say what each service consists of? I know mine does.

The point is i paid for what i thought was a 40k service only to be told it was ACTUALLY a 30k service a year later hence i should pay the difference!!, when i argued i should not, they agreed they will foot the additional cost - which was only a fuel filter!!.
    What a rip off :(

According to the maintenance site, It should have the belts check/replace and aircon filters at 40k, Possibly the axle fluids.

Partly why a fully stamped service book is a waste of time. £30 - £50 oil change and a stamp in the book.

Then someome buys it thinking great full service history, And wonder why its got the same air and fuel filters
    since it left the factory.

I think there is more on a 40k service than just a fuel filter, although having said that, I have never paid more than about £250 for a service (up to 60k) can I suggest you post on:

Cheap cars usually have whacking great service and parts costs at main dealers. Lada cars were as cheap as chips to buy but the parts and servicing cost at main dealers were truly horrific.
