HP Laptop problems

Options
Posting on behalf of my aunt who's having problems with the laptop she has. She's not computer savvy, so has just given me limited information at the moment.

She has recently purchased a HP Laptop from comet. It's one of the recent ones, although she's not entirely sure of the exact model. She's recently connected to Plusnet broadband.

Yesterday she kept getting messages saying there was a 'breakdown' on the computer and it needed to go to 'repair mode'. She wasn't able to connect to the net. As I say, her computer knowledge isn't the best and as yet I haven't had the chance to look at it myself.

Just wondered if anyone had any advice of what to look for when I get the chance to have a look at it.

Thanks in advance.

If there's no data on it, restore to factory settings or reinstall from disc (if she has one)

or hold down F8 at boot, and try all the options

Since this is a "recently purchased a HP Laptop from comet" then I strongly suggest that she rings the helpline number on the receipt. I had a problem with my HP laptop from Comet and they were VERY helpful, put me in contact with HP telephone support and talked me thru the problem step by step. I am in no way computer savvy, and the instructions they gave were very clear and easy to follow.
  • thanks for the advice guys, will let her know

Thanks, yeah she only bought it about 4-6 weeks ago. Will tell her to contact Comet to see if they can help.
  • Firstly, I think HP laptops are crap! Mine was broken after 6 months and the I sent it like 10 times back to HP to get it fixed but they couldnt. Then I had to sell it for less on ebay :(

    Try installing the OS again.

    WHAT? Ahh.....
  • Wow i hope what Jollyton has said above is not true, i have just purchased a HP laptop from PC World for nearly £600.

Looks good and feels nice, its got an ok hd screen and is very quick... Cant comment much more than that at the minute.

But in responce to the OP i would get in touch with Comet, get them to help and if the problem persists send it back on the warranty.
