Possibly true only if you fly from the Airport Terminal the pickup location is in
Perhaps you could have mentioned that quite relevant information earlier.
If it were to cost you in excess of the saving to reach the airport, then of course it is not cost effective.
From which airport did you fly?0 -
Is the good rate not negated slightly by the fact the Travelex Cash Passport Globe costs £14.90 per £1000, i.e. charges 1.49% per transaction?
Slightly - yes.
But the bad rate on the oz doll card is in the region of (I'm guessing) 3 to 5% worse than the Globe rate. AIUI when loading you get the same rate as Sainsburys, etc, charge for $AU cash
Bottom line is that you have to be aware of both the exchange rate and fees - many people seem only capable of understanding the latter.0 -

I had already taken that into account. Mastercard rate multiplied by .9851.0 -
That was included in the calculation. If it were without the 1.49% fee, it would have been £22.50 + £14.90 = £37.40 per £1000.
I did think afterwards that you might have included it, but at the time of posting thought the rate can't be that bad.......
Does that mean that the AU$ Cash Passport could be worse than a debit card?0 -

Yes, it could be; dependent on the debit card in question and even more so when using some other Travelex card providers such a Thomas Cook(don't do it).0 -
I have a Nationwide Debit Card that's £2 + 2% for cash point withdrawls. So roughly speaking, if I'd withdrawn all the money in one or two goes (not ideal!) it might have been as 'cheap' as the cash passport to use my debit card. However as you've pointed there are cheaper ways, thanks.
Will try to get a Passport Globe card or even better a Metro Bank Account for the future

It's 2% plus £1.0
