    if you want to get an external as fast as possible, you could get an esata connection rather than usb, depends if you already have an esata port on your pc (if not you could get a pci for about 10 notes) but depends how much you value speed over money!

  • I think I will stick with the usb, not really going to be a problem with speed if it is just backing up data. I will splash out on an enclosure for the new hard drive and leave it at that.
    Thanks for your help, think this has run its course now, so I will go mow the lawn whilst the sun shines!!
