Hi All,
What's the speed limit when leaving Belfast and just prior to hitting the M1? I was doing 50 MPH on this road yesterday and everybody seemed to be overtaking me.
Thanks in advance.

It's 50 (normally, although this can be changed) until you get to the signs over the M1 just after you come out of the Broadway underpass, when it changes to 70, but everyone just ignores it.0

also to my cost i found out last year that transit vans are only allowed to do 50 on the motorway.0

Some speedometers in cars read high due to wear on tyres or because that is the way they are set at the factory (they err on the safe side in other words). It is very difficult to test this, but on occasions when I have gone past one of those signs which tell you your speed my speed was measured as much lower than what my speedometer was showing. In NI those speed signs are rare though. Maybe we need more of them.0

a transit van is not a car derived van, it is a commercial vehicle and if over 2000kg
on single restricted track roads your speed limit is 50 mph NOT 60
on dual carriageways it is 60 mph, NOT 70
and on the motorway it is 70 mph
To be honest if you dont know this, you should not be driving a commercial van.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

shaz77 - well done on sticking to the speed limit. What bugs me about this stretch of road (let's call it the 'newly widened Westlink' is the shocking lane discipline - the middle lane hogs, and even the outside lane hogs. For anyone that doesn't realise, stick to the left!0

Never mind the lane discipline, considering how much they spent "upgrading" the Broadway junction, they didn't half make a right ballsup of the the slip road access to Boucher Road, absolutely atrociousNorn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

I would normally agree, but the problem is the filter lane that joins the M1 from Broadway just after the bridge. If you aren't going to Stockmans Lane or Dunmurry then staying in that lane just gets you stuck in a huge queue.
Not saying that I agree with hogging the outside lanes, just that I normally stay out there until after the Stockmans exit and I need to hit the left.0
