Gas Combi boiler install from market leading national company

Hi there. I am looking to select a well known company that has been established for sometime to install a combi boiler.. my current conventional boiler has finally stopped working.. so time to replace it!

Experience so far:

British Gas - didn't make appointment time at 7pm booked today (over phone they pitched 2500, which includes 400 discount. Chap I spoke to who didn't make it to house said would be 3,500 in reality.

Domestic and General Heating gasheatinginstallers dot com quoted 2,250 (only established 2 years) Are they related to domgen dot com ?

Northern Gas Heating quoted 2,600

SSE - pretty poor, no possibility of evening appointments for quote, over phone informed would be 3,500!

Local gassafe registered chap that I trust. 2,900

Other local gas safe registered chap quoted 2000, but don't really trust him.

Quote covers:

28kwh boiler, baxi, or woster boche
vertical flu kit.
clean and flush
lime scale inline remover
removal of old hot water tank, and old boiler
removal of smaller water tank in loft, and drain the large one.

--- so I'm not really confident with any of my current quotes. Can anyone recommend a national installer.. that has been established for 10+ years, and has staff and offices over the uk? I'm looking for a price 2,500 or cheaper ideally.. but I would go higher if I knew I could trust and rely on them for the future. would like to keep the same firm for the life of the boiler ~20 years!?

Cheers, thanks, rich

You want a local RGI not some national that sends some boys out of college a week to do a bit of house bashing.

Get a Worcester Bosch or Vailiant boiler from a approved installer so you get 5 years warranty.

I picked the top 3 from Which?

    Worcester
    Greenstar 28i Junior 79% BestBuy

    Vaillant
    ecoTEC pro 28 77% BestBuy

    Vaillant
    ecoTEC plus 428 77% BestBuy

--- However, isn't that "Junior" not temp controllable? no dials etc.. factory fixed at 35C?

I'd get some more independents round. Not sure where you are, but all your quotes seem a bit high.

In November 2010 I had a new WB Greenstar 30SI, flue, soakaway for the condensate pipe, 7 new radiators, magnaclean, wireless stat, trv's. Old boiler and tanks removed, 5 year warranty, all for £2400. That included locating the boiler in a different part of the house.

    Cheers

We had a local plumber install a Vaillant condensing combi boiler about 3 years ago and we've been very happy with it - touch wood! Cost about £1300 in total.

Likewise Just had Vaillant out to service it and they only charged £64.00
    Sure they also fit

Why do you want to keep the same firm ?
Get 3 quotes from local guys.
In my opinion getting a larger company does not mean you will get a better job. I worked for BG for many years and some of the installs were really bad.
I know somebody who works for npower and it seems there not any better.
A local company will do a better job in my opinion as they have more time to do the job correctly for you.

i was talking to my SIL dad last week.
he was telling me about BG. he had a new BG boiler fitted 7 yrs ago.
    serviced every year. by BG.

this year he decided to use a local plumber. the chap condemned the install as the flue was directly under a window.
dad got onto BG and after much hassle they came and resited the boiler. FOC.
    Get some gorm.

    ps
theres loads of ads in my local paper advertising vaillant or bosch boilers installed for 1500 quid.
    plus vat.

plumbers must be feeling the pinch now.

I would agree. Times are hard.
I fit them for less than £1500.
