Slow Laptop

Options
Hi Can anyone shed any light on this please. I have an old laptop that worked fine as in quite quickly. Its windows xp. However now that ive installed bt s mcafee antivirus ( its free with option 3 that we have ) this laptop has gone really slow as in taking half an hour to connect to the internet. I keep getting windows is not responding and every click takes ages . Is this anti virus slowing it down as there are a number of pc s/laptops in the family here though not on all the time. Would it be better to instal avast or avira and keep it separate to the other pc s which could all be connected somehow. Or does anyone know how to speed it up please. Any opinions gratefully recieved.

that's the biggest issue by far, carpy program and a total system hog. Download avast and save to desktop,

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/

uninstall mcrapafee then run the mcafee removal tool,

    http://majorgeeks.com/McAfee_Consumer_Product_Removal_Tool_d5420.html

    then install avast :)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
  • Also try AVG as i've found this to be the fastest by far...

you're probably the only person in the world then, no offence. How many AVG processes are running in task manager, and how much RAM is it all taking up ??? At a rough guess, about 3-5 times more than avast.

  • +1 for Avast, lowest memory use of all AVs.

because the uninstall via windows isn't robust enough to fully remove it all. If you don't run the removal tool, the hangover bits left can cause problems and conflict with other software :)

  • I always had that problem as well...Whenever i download anti-virus sofwares. They do make your PC a bit slow. But I have no problem with AVG anti-virus. Check it out.

Don't people ever read the independant AV comparatives tests ??? avast = good, avg = better than it was but still no match for avast or avira.........
