Claiming Attendance allowance

  • I don't think you'll find it helpful to take that attitude. AA is awarded for personal care needs only and you'll be wasting your time (and increasing your chance of failure) if you don't address this in any application or appeal.

dont get me wrong, i'm not saying things dont count or matter, but i do consider the ability to obtain food and ensure good hygiene standards a very important part of personal care as a severe lack of either can easily result in illness or death.

I think its a poor state of affairs when people such as convicted criminals have better care than our elderly, if i were responsible for the people of this country i would hang my head in shame and resign

You may get Attendance Allowance if the following apply:
you have a physical disability (including sensory disability, such as blindness), a mental disability (including learning difficulties), or both
your disability is severe enough for you to need help caring for yourself or someone to supervise you, for your own or someone else’s safety

Your MIL should qualify for AA. Did you fill in the forms yourself? It's not always easy for lay people to explain the problems. I would get help to appeal - someone from the Pensions Service, council Welfare Advisors, DIAL, CAB.

appeal we took mother inlaw to a community law centre they helped with the form filling she only expected to get lower but got the higher.alot depends on how the answers are worded so dont give up.
Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)
  • my dad got high rate AA last year my MIL this year,in the latter case she had help from age uk and got the award within 2 weeks,my dad did his own thoroughly and had no problems
without being too critical i would say there where it is so obvious an award should be made its often down to the forms not being completed fully and giving a full picture of the problems, after all needing help with medication is almost enough to get the lower rate of AA
