If you can't upgrade it's probably because of the discounted fare. On BA, usually only full fare WT seats can be upgraded to WT+, and you'll only get 50% of the miles flown as well.

As for the main topic of this thread, if you happen to have cards in £ and $ or something else, you can sometimes get a better deal by paying in the currency of your choice, although you won't be able to book with most airlines directly.

My wife recently had to fly to Australia for a week we checked flight prices carefully and discovered that booking ahead through Qantas who were code sharing with BA we saved about £200 , event though she actually ended up flying on BA flights both ways. We basically just did the usual flight checker websites and figured that when the different airlines had flights departing and arriving at the same time it was obviosuly the same plane flying under different codes so we chose the time that suited and went for the cheaper option, booking Qantas. However it did seem to confuse the Qantas/BA system when it came to online booking so she turned up at the airport to check in and had little choice of seating...but it was probably still worth the saving.
Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!

The problem with doing codeshare between AA and BA is that if you are on a BA flight but booked through AA you do not get the option to upgrade your ticket after purchase, buy legroom seats or choose your seat before 24 hours before checkin. You might want the weigh these things up before saving a couple of quid

I was discussing this with my husband - AA/BA codeshares and we've been arguing about whether you get the AA baggage allowance (we're both gold with AA now so can each check 2 bags FOC) if we are flying on a BA plane but have an AA flight number...I have seen conflicting information online so I don't know.

we prefer AA layout anyway...pairs all the way down the sides on the 777s...so unlikely we would fly BA anyway (it would have to be a biiiiiiig savings for us to not be able to pre-select our seats more than 24-hours before without paying, especially given the layout of the plane is not ideal). :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

When booking a codeshare you also need to check on what it means for any Frequent Flyer scheme you are in. The details for BA's codeshares and partners is at http://www.britishairways.com/travel/ecpartnroneworld/public/en_gb
Thanks for that but I'm still a bit confused.
Just back from Singapore on Qantas.
Was going to use BA as they are a bit free er with providing drinks before the meal but the missus reckoned that adding the BA airmiles to our Qantas airmiles wouldn't give us the same amount as using Qantas.
Small difference in the price of ticket as well iirc.

    Why are things so complicated?
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.
