I have some that I have burned things to that I want to get rid of
Is cutting them up with a scissors and throwing them away sufficient?

Definite paranoia going on here. Strangely enough thieves don't look in every bin in the country for discarded CDs. Are they really that interested in your holiday photos from the Algarve or that letter you wrote to Argos complaining about the dishwasher?
Have a good look at what is on a typical CDs and ask yourself "How is this of any possible use to a bad guy?"
That said, cutting them with scissors will do fine.

Definitely agree with that
Just throwing them away is a risk because if found, the tendency is to try them to see what is on them, or it is mine0 -

also tried burning them once heh... but don't have a fireplace anymore0 -

My local rubbish tip collects old CDs and DVDs for recycling, yours might too? Assuming they do not contain personal or sensitive data, of course.0

it will blunt the scissors - shredder with cd slot or hammer (after wrapping up)!!

I just point hold them over the bin and fold them until they break. Bits can still go everywhere though.
I'd love to try option 4, but I don't think the OH would appreciate me destroying her microwave.:)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
